The Sesame wheelchair platform stairlift
The Sesame System could be classified as a wheelchair platform stairlift. The Sesame transfers a wheelchair user up or down a flight of stairs, all be it the stairs have retracted to reveal the platform lift. When the passenger has arrived at their desired landing the stairs then return for pedestrian use.
A typical wheelchair platform stairlift would allow a wheelchair to travel up a flight of stairs via an unfolding platform situated at the upper or lower landing level. The platform and wheelchair user would travel up the staircase via a permanently visible set of tracks. The advantage, therefore, of a Sesame System over a typical wheelchair platform stairlift would be in the aesthetics as you will not have an unfolding platform nor its tracks on show. In addition, the tracks would reduce the available width of the staircase to pedestrians.
Another advantage of a Sesame System over a typical wheelchair platform stairlift would be its ability to safely transfer not only wheelchair users but also an accompanying pedestrian or an ambulantly disabled person. A standard wheelchair platform stairlift is specifically designed solely for the maneuvering for those in a wheelchair.
